Celebrating Photo Alchemy One Last Time!

Jody Ake
Juror's Choice Award Winner

Today we finally wrap up our three Photo Alchemy Juror's Choice Award Winners with this final entry: Jody Ake.

Portland is very lucky to have this talented artist in town. Jody recently moved back to Portland after a stint in New York. He is an extremely adept image maker, creating nudes, portraiture, still lifes and landscapes with old fashioned large format wet collodion on glass plates. Not very many people work with wet plate collodion in landscapes. Just imagine the risks of loading a wet glass plate into a large format camera while standing in the Columbia Gorge, famous for it's winds that roll up and down the river.

Jody's work has been featured here at photography twice. First, we were pleased to include his luminous portrait in our Resurrection show back in May of 2008. And, most recently two of his landscapes were included in Photo Alchemy

As part of his Juror's Choice Award we have assembled a portfolio of 10 more of Jody's landscape photographs. Click here to view the portfolio on our web site.

The image shown above reminds me of some of the historic works in Wild Beauty, an exhibition at the Portland Art Museum accompanied by a magnificent book that was our friend Terry Toedtemeier's magnum opus just before his death in December of 2008.

Congratulations again to Jody as well as to S. Gayle Stevens and Bill Westheimer for their Juror's Choice awards. And, thank you again to Laura Moya for her insightful selections in this amazing show.
